Stillness Bodywork Practice in Sonoma County
Stress relief is an increasingly important topic in today’s world. Many of us are dealing with an unprecedented amount of stress both mentally and physically. Craniosacral therapy is a form of bodywork that has been gaining in popularity due to its ability to offer deep relaxation and stress relief. In a typical 75-minute session of craniosacral therapy, your practitioner will use a light touch to help bring your body back into balance.
During the session, your practitioner will use a variety of techniques to work with the bones, nerves, and muscles of your neck, head, back, and torso. Your practitioner will also use gentle rocking, soothing motion, and pressure point massage to help you to relax and unwind both mentally and physically. Your practitioner will also use their knowledge of the osteopathic legacy to help you access the cranial rhythm, which is a unique and subtle pattern of cerebrospinal fluid flow that can be felt throughout your body.
This rhythm is a key component of craniosacral therapy, and it can help to bring your body into balance and reduce physical and emotional tension. The founders of craniosacral therapy, Dr. William Sutherland and Dr. John Upledger, were pioneers in the field. In regard to the cranial rhythm, Dr. Sutherland said, “It is a tide-like ebb and flow that is not only palpable but often audible.” Dr. Upledger echoed this sentiment and said, “The cranial rhythm is the key to unlocking the body’s natural healing powers.”
Many people who have experienced craniosacral therapy have reported feeling a deep sense of relaxation and inner peace afterwards. In addition to providing stress relief, craniosacral therapy can also help to reduce physical pain, improve flexibility, and increase overall well-being. As Dr. Upledger said, “Craniosacral therapy is a gentle and powerful way to bring the body into balance and promote natural healing.”

About Sebastopol Craniosacral Therapy
CranioSacral Therapy can help with a variety of dysfunctions. It normalizes the environment around the brain, spinal cord, and enhances the body’s ability for self-correction. Cranial Sacral Therapy (CST), is also known as craniosacral treatment. It is a form of bodywork that reduces the pressure in the skull, sacrum (a triangular bone at the lower back), as well as the spinal column. CST is not invasive.
Another friend reported that her CST experience was “subtle, but amazing.” He said that most patients report feeling relaxed, calm, and peaceful after their sessions.
There are many sessions that are required. It can be one to three per week, or even more over several weeks.
A functioning central nervous system (CNS) can relax muscles, improve circulation, reduce pain and swelling, make the immune system more efficient to fight infection and disease, and alleviate symptoms such as anxiety and depression. It can also help to move energetic cysts.
The clinic’s therapists stated that craniosacral Therapy helped reduce physical pain and allowed for the mobilization mental resources needed for psychotherapy. The clinic made emotional and trauma more accessible and readily available for therapeutic methods.
This skill is taught in CranioSacral therapy workshops. However, you can feel the craniosacral rhythm by simply palpating your own. … Now you can feel the movement of the cerebrospinal fluid within the craniosacral system with a very light, 5-HT0_gram touch.
What is Craniosacral Therapy? Craniosacral Therapy (CST)
It is a form of gentle bodywork and physical stress releif developed by Dr. William Sutherland and Dr. James Jealous in the early 20th century. Craniosacral therapy is based on the premise that a person’s physical and emotional health are connected to the influence of subtle energy forces within the body. The central focus of CST is the cranial bones, membranes, and fluids of the central nervous system, and treatments work to identify and treat energetic imbalances and blockages that can impair the individual’s sense of wellbeing.
The creators of modern CST identified seven (7) key practitioners who joined Sutherland and Jealous to develop this form of therapy. These practitioners made sure that the knowledge of CST and its usage for better physical and emotional health were centralized onto one single source. The goal was to make CST accessible to the wider public. The seven key practitioners are: 1. John Upledger – known as the founder of Upledger Institute International, he was a major proponent of vision-making within modern CST. 2. Franklyn Sills – a British osteopath and biodynamic cranial osteopath, he focused his work on how conscious energy can be expressed in the body through various forms of somatic practices.
3. Bessel A. van der Kolk – van der Kolk was a teacher and practitioner of the traditional Oriental system chi kung and a clinical psychologist who worked with trauma-related issues. 4. Anthony P. Musarra – Musarra was an Anthroposophist and healer who focused his work on holistic healing and integration of body, mind, and spirit. 5. Frederick Leboyer – Leboyer was a French philosopher and the author of “Birth Without Violence”, a book that championed gentle birth procedures.
6. Don Watson – Watson was an American osteopathic doctor and the founder of the Watson Health Institute. 7. Dr. John N. E. Http://N -a practitioner of Dynamic Stillness and an advocate for ending chronic pain, Dr. Http://N helped to bring a more compassionate approach to healing. The Benefits of Craniosacral Therapy The benefits of craniosacral therapy can be felt physically, emotionally, and mentally. The benefits of this form of bodywork have been scientifically studied and are considered to have the following positive impacts: 1. Improving physical alignment and posture
2. Enhancing the body’s natural healing processes 3. Relieving chronic pain such as headaches, neck pain, and back pain 4. Improving nerve pathways throughout the body 5. Strengthening the immune system 6. Reducing stress, anxiety, and depression levels
7. Increasing mental clarity 8. Decreasing tension in the body 9. Improving flexibility and mobility In addition to the physical benefits, craniosacral therapy can also help to improve emotional wellbeing in a variety of ways. Improved emotional balance and integration, a heightened sense of self-awareness, and a reduction in the effects of stress can all be experienced immediately following a CST session.
Founders of Modern CST:
John Upledger - “Our mission is to help people everywhere learn the value of fascia, muscle and movement as it relates to their health and well-being.” Franklyn Sills - “Life is meant to be lived in joy and pleasure, even in pain, without becoming enslaved to either.” Bessel A. van der Kolk - “My work, like all work that is really worth doing, is a labor of love.” Anthony P. Musarra - “Beneath the appearances of the physical body is a hidden life, a subtle energy field of spiritual consciousness and power that connects us to the cosmos.” Frederick Leboyer - “Since birth, life has been a struggle not only against death, but also against fear, fear of pain, and fear of loss. Birth teaches us to go beyond fear.” Don Watson - “The health of our society, and the health of our environment and of our world, are all connected to the quality of our relationships.” Dr. John N. E. - “The highest good comes from realizing our deepest truth and respecting the souls of all beings.”

CRANIAL SACRAL THEAPY
Did you know that facial expressions are controlled by the muscles in your scalp? Cranial sacral therapy can be used to soothe your scalp depending on how you are feeling. This gentle, non-invasive massage helps to reduce stress and pain.
Cranial sacral massaging works to improve the natural alignment of bones and reduce muscle tension. This therapy can be added to your next session to reduce stress, relieve neck and back pain, and offer migraine headache relief. Talk to your massage therapists about incorporating cranial sacral therapy into your next session.
A typical session lasts one to two hours. The client lies down, fully clothed, and the practitioner makes light contact around the head, neck, knees, feet, and torso. The practitioner uses gentle pressure to the client’s fingers, without any forceful thrusts or bone manipulation, such as in osteopathy, bone-setting, and chiropractic work.
The practitioner takes note of what he/she sees in selected areas on the body as well as in the craniosacral systems (the membranes, cerebrospinal fluid and surrounding the brain and spinal chord), and the client’s attitudes and intentions. Craniosacral therapy aims to remove restrictions from this system and improve the functioning of central nervous system.
